Different Similarities: Spring 2017

In the midst of fashion month, we catch a glimpse of so many designers displaying their upcoming collections, in so many different ways. What I love about fashion is that it is forever evolving. Each designer has their own vision that becomes the influence of their seasonal wardrobe. And while each collection has a different theme, the pieces are always somehow so true to the designer.

This past week I have noticed these similar, but different collections from some of my favorite designers including Rihanna and Olivier Rousteing. With more shows to come, I wanted to put an emphasis on these two amazing collections.

Balmain

Olivier opened his presentation with two copper looks, giving a twist on last seasons “nude” vibes. Materials were light and breathable, a change from Olivier’s structured, armor-like pieces. Snake prints featured in belts, necklaces, dresses and jackets, giving a true jungle feel throughout the catwalk.

The collection was true to Balmain standards with thick waist belts, plunged necklines, draped fabric and an awesome range of colors that still fit the script.

I noticed a lot of asymmetrical cuts with hemlines, skirt slits, shoulder detail and placement of cut-outs. I think we just found the hottest trend for spring 2017!

Fenty x Puma

One word, obsessed. I expected nothing less than for Rihanna to shut down Paris with her second collection with Puma. RiRi kills it on the streets, on tour, and probably on her couch eating Oreo’s. She is just not afraid to wear what she wants and shines with her carefree personality.

Rihanna’s first collection had darker tones to it, while this presentation was light and romantic. Rihanna’s inspiration for this collection was Marie Antoinette (former Queen of France) and the Palace of Versailles. “I kept it a bit street—everything was super-sporty and definitely highly influenced by 18th-century French culture, and the style of that time,” Rihanna told Vogue backstage. It was only right to debut this collection at Paris FW.

18th century street wear… Satin and sheer fabrics, neutral tones and layered corsets. The modern-day corset is not only around your waist, but around your neck and to lace up your pumps. This collection was very true to Rihanna and her personal style. She layers effortlessly and was the first to rock a pair of satin pajamas, making lingerie the new streetwear. I also adored how she brought in the soft pearl-layered chokers, seen on the pop star many times before. A very royal, feminine touch!

That jumpsuit? Yes, please. Needless to say, I cannot wait for this collection to hit stores, hopefully as affordable and readily available as her first collection.
