A faux pas is an embarrassing or tactless act in a social situation. A fashion faux pas is a fashion-do-not. This is not a bias post about what I think is hot or not, but when and when not. Continue reading for fashion faux pas to avoid and how to avoid them!
Bra Straps
There is a right and a wrong way to have a bra visible. In 2018, we should have this down to a science! An exposed bra strap can put a damper on your entire outfit when it’s not actually a part of your outfit. If you are one of those people (like myself) that rely on the support of a bra every day, stick with flesh toned straps! For the lucky ones that don’t need as much support, explore the world of bralettes! Bralettes are fashionable bra alternatives that when visible aren’t as harsh and tacky.
For my clients that love lacey bralettes, I suggest trying out a laced lingerie bodysuit! This gives a seamless transition for cropped or relaxed, low-cut tops (and doubles their purpose).

Panty Lines
Panty lines go hand-in-hand with bra straps, except for the fact there’s no social acceptance of visible panties – like ever. I can’t even stand to see a grown man with his underwear hanging out, no matter what brand it is.
Do I have to spell this one out?
A small hack to a seamless appearance is Spanx! Spanx is a brand I love to sell because of how relatable they are. No matter what size you are, you can benefit from Spanx! While providing light to full control, they are seamless and work under every fabric and silhouette. They come in high waist, biker shorts, slip fits, bodysuits and more. I guarantee that your fave celebrity gets a lot of use out of these!

Wrinkles
I think we can all agree that wrinkles suck. But I’m talking clothing…
Please take seven minutes out of your day to iron your blouse before you leave the house! Studies actually show that almost 50% of executives are less likely to promote someone who wears wrinkly shirts to work.
I do not own an iron or steamer, but you will rarely catch me wearing a wrinkle! I make sure to take extra care of my tops or pants that I know can become wrinkly from the washer or dryer. Make sure to hang or lay flat to dry according to care instructions, and keep everything hung nicely in your closet once dry! I also love to take advantage of my boyfriends slight obsession with the dry cleaners. They seem to get it right every time!
Know Your Body Type
Size matters, but not how you think. I always have to remind my customers that no one can see the tag inside your clothes! Buy the large if you think it fits better than the medium because no one is judging you.
If you feel like you’re busting out of something – you probably are. Don’t go for your end-goal jeans and force them to fit if they don’t! Same goes for bras… take time out of your next shopping trip and pop into your local Nordstrom or Soma to get bra fit!
Knowing your size comes with knowing your body type. Something that works for someone else isn’t guaranteed to work for you. Make sure the jumpsuit you saw on your fave blogger has the inseam appropriate for your height! If it is too long, take it to your local seamstress and hem it to make it work. My biggest pet peeve is seeing an Instagram fashion blogger wearing a piece they have borrowed from a showroom and it is pictured touching the ground. Spare yourself the embarrassment! Alterations help create a customized piece for your body.

Be Yourself
Anyone that knows me knows that I am very passionate about people expressing themselves, genuinely as themselves. This is especially important in the fashion world! Designers develop their personal brand that we feed off of, which makes them successful. Feel free to grab inspiration from your favorite runways or bloggers, but make sure its just that – inspiration for the look you create. Stealing someone else’s look is tacky and unoriginal… boring.
Below are some looks I came across and loved. The top left photo is a coordinate piece by designer Danielle Guizio. I love that she created a modern twist to the blazer dress. The model paired this piece with clean sneaks and finished it with the trendy belt bag. I also love the look Bella Hadid created in the bottom right photo, rocking an X-Girl pair of sunnies with her belt bag featured as a crossbody.
